Marking it out!

Most of us Delhiites must be knowing that the Aurobindo Market lies somewhere near Green Park, in the South Delhi area. But again, we are not just dealing with Delhiites here.
So to demarcate my selected area and make the idea clearer for a layman, I decided to go ahead with first showcasing a map where the South Delhi area was marked out.
Then, I went forward and zoomed into the Aurobindo Market and took out a map with an overview of the market.
Last but not the least, I decided to put a third map displaying each and every shop with the tiniest of aspects of the market in my Visual Diary. (Didn't want to leave any stone unturned to make it easy for you guys!)
Oh and yes, the third map is made by Franziska. Woot woot!

So here you have it! Hope this simplifies things for you.

Let's get started!

Time to start with my Visual Diary, I guess.
So like always, I first started with the 'Mind Mapping' of my topic, ie, Aurobindo Place Market.
For those of you who don't exactly know what it is, Mind Mapping refers to writing our topic in the centre and then writing every single word related to it around it.
My words included each and every thing which came to my mind when I heard the market's name.
From dairy to bookstores, from jewellery to food, and from greenery to peace, everything found a place somewhere in my Mind Mapping.

I think this was a good way to kick start my Visual Diary, as it gave me a fair idea of which all aspects to cover in my project. I'd like you to have a look at it, here-

To Macro or to Micro?

This module brought along truck loads of confusion too. And amusingly, this time it was not just the students who were confused, the teachers were equally caught up in the 'Macro-Micro' confusion.

So after a lot of chit-chat amongst themselves, we received a final briefing and got going!
While all the other groups chose different lanes of Hauz Khas Village as their Macro, our group chose the Aurobindo Market as its Macro. Not too far from the Village, it also is a part of Hauz Khas. If you may ask the reason, we thought that this market had greater possibilities of gaining research material and learning experience.

We started with first exploring all the lanes, shops, stores, and particularly the small 'thelas' of that market. And that made us realize what a wise decision we took by choosing the Aurobindo Market as our main area. Then we later started interviewing people, asking them about when did the market start, how long have they been working there, and other similar questions.

Some of the people thought we were from the MCD and were there to get their shops off that place. Thus, their resentment to answer any of our questions. (Yes, field projects do require a hell lot of skills) But fortunately, most of the people were very welcoming and answered with extreme kindness.
Also, I should really mention this enormously polite historian and author, S. Irfan Habib, who had seen the area grow in front of his own eyes, and agreed to tell us each and every thing he knew about it.

So at last, after a tiring day, we were satisfied with the kind of research that we did and the results that we had in our hands. We called it a day and got back to our homes. But this day definitely arose even more curiosity in me, so I am looking forward to get there again and continue from where I stopped. Here's a glimpse from that day.

That's all for today. I'll be back soon with my Micro. Tada!

And we're here again!

I AM BACK, GUYSSSS!

Missed me much?

I last left you at the time of my jury. Don't ask me about how did it go. You know this whole "we-wont-tell-you-if-we-are-impressed-by-your-project-or-totally-disappointed-or-just-honing-our-acting-skills" look that teachers sometimes give?
That's exactly what happened to me. So for now, just fingers crossed.

But before I could even take a breath of relief, we were here again. Module-4 it is!

This module is broadly about field visits, interviewing people, observing around, moving to and fro, and moreover, tons of experiencing! And I am totally looking forward to this experience. Hope you all are too. All I can say for now is that I am gonna make sure that this experience of mine proves to be as fulfilling for you, as I want it to be for me. I promise to make it worth a watch, my friend.

So before I take your leave, here's a sneak peak from our role play, where we discussed about how to actually go about the whole research process. Oh btw, you're gonna love the area we chose. It's Aurobindo Place Market from the hub itself, Hauz Khas!

Have a look!

Grand Finale: Swatches!

So here we are!

This is probably gonna be my last post regarding this project, as I am finally done with my ultimate swatches. Honestly, it was not as difficult as I imagined it to be. However, it was extremely challenging and I had truck loads of fun doing it!

Before showing them to you, lemme tell you a few things about how I came up to them. First things first, I did a lot of exploring through the tight and chaotic streets of Karol Bagh to source the most important material for my swatches, which was going to be used as their base- LEATHER! Not such a pleasant experience considering what a mess that area was, but definitely worth it! Other than that, I used a few of my ideations from my Visual Diary and used them in my swatches.

Look for yourself!

So this is it! That was all for this project and this module. Thank you so much for living my journey along with me. I hope you guys liked it and also what it led to, ie, the final outcome. Let's just hope that the jury ends up liking my project and moreover my efforts, too.

Tada! See you soon.

Doodle it up!

Ting ting tiding! I am back.

So here goes my second step towards my swatches.
Here, I tried to take some inspiration from Medusa's pictures and her form and tried to derive, ideate and explore them. This helped me develop some motifs or designs which, in turn, became the inspiration for my swatches.

Take a look!
