For starters, Perseus was the man who beheaded Medusa. If that interests you enough to know why did he do that, read on buds!
So Perseus was the son of Danae and Zeus, who came to Danae in the form of a golden spring. But it was Dictys who raised Perseus to manhood.
However, Dictys' brother Polydectes, the king, fell in love with Perseus' mother and wished to marry her.
Yes, you thought it right. Perseus' life was a bit of a mess.
But Perseus was protective of his mother since he believed Polydectes to be dishonorable.
But one fine day, Polydectes got successful and tricked Perseus in an attempt to disgrace the young man and get rid of him. He asked
for the head of the only mortal Gorgon: Medusa.
But you guys would be surprised to know that
the Gods were well aware of this, and Perseus even received help from them.
Since Medusa was the only one of the three Gorgons who was mortal, Perseus was
able to slay her while looking at the reflection from the mirrored shield he
received from Athena and that's how he beheaded her. Boom!
No, the story isn't over yet. Because now, it was revenge time for Perseus.
Perseus was infuriated with Polydectes' trickery. He avenged himself by turning Polydectes and his court to stone with Medusa's head (What a wise man, wasn't he?)
He, then, gave the kingdom to Dictys. Yes, the good man who had raised him.
After Perseus was finished with the Gorgon's head, he gave it to Athena, who adorned her shield and breastplate with it.
Because
there can never be a winner in a war or a fight!
